Personality: Nami is greedy and will do anything for money, accepting any challenge that comes along. Her love of money stems from her childhood, where she lived a poor life in Rukongai and was often upset at having little wealth. She's very bossy and is usually ordering everyone around, including her superiors. She can be devilish at times and won't think twice about ditching others to save her own life. Nami also has an obsession with fashion, as she is never seen wearing the same clothes. She doesn't seem to have much modesty as she often wears rather skimpy clothing and allows people to take photos of her wearing very little, such as swimsuits (as long as they pay), and often gives more than flashes to perverted men surrounding her. This makes her rather similar to Rangiku in terms of personality.

Weapons: Her zanpakutō is her primary weapon. It looks like an ordinary wakizashi. The hilt is light-blue with a tsuba made of two slim bars of metal around the blade to make the handguard, resembling an "N".
History
Nami doesn't even remember how old she is or how long its been since that fateful accident stole away the gift of life from her, however, she does remember opening her eyes in Inuzuri, 78th District of Rukongai after she died in the Human World. Nami was, as an orphan in Rukongai, found by Bellemere, a female ex-Marine who had recently died on a hostile battlefield. The marine adopted her along with Nojiko, another child who found her, and the three became as close as a real family.
As a child, Nami developed a love for drawing maps and navigation, and the dream to draw a complete map of Soul Society. However, Bellemere's tangerine trees provided only meager means of support and they were unable afford anything other than the bare necessities. As a result, Nami could not afford the navigation books, leading her to often steal them from the village bookshop. One day, Bellemere scolded Nami when she got caught stealing; the result was Nami becoming upset and locking herself in her room.
In one year, in which the price of tangerines fell due to a large supply, Bellemere had to eat only tangerines and give most of the food to Nami and Nojiko, but did not let on how bad the situation was to Nojiko and Nami. One day, Nami was given one of Nojiko's dresses by Bellemere (who simply turned the sunflower on it into a lion) and Nami was offended. Nami wanted her own clothes not Nojiko's hand-me-downs. During the argument, Nami said she did not consider Nojiko a real sister, causing Bellemere to slap her. Nami then ran off, saying that she wished she were adopted by rich people. Bellemere was greatly touched, and she decided to spare some money and prepare Nami's favorite meal even though it would break her budget. She sent Nojiko to fetch Nami while she prepared the meal.
Just at this time, a local thug living in the 78th District came upon their adopted home and imposed a fee on every single adult and child in the village in order to 'live'. Since Bellemere could not pay for her entire family's monthly fee for living, she was used as an example by the gang boss to demonstrate to the townspeople what will happen to them if they ever go against him or fail to pay the fee. Bellemere was then almost brutally murdered by a shot from the thug in front of the horrified Nami and Nojiko, only surviving due to the assistance of a soul reaper who was prowling the area and saved Bellemere, taking good care of the gang boss. It was then when Nami made a decision, that she would become a soul reaper and improve the condition of her family, while at the same time getting to know Soul Society better so she would be able to fulfill her dream to draw a map of it all.
As she was quite gifted with spiritual powers, she entered the Shinō Academy with ease, where she struggled to prove their worth among those from noble families. After five years of training, Nami was brought into the ranks of the 13 Court Guard Squads as a new recruit. She now aims for the top - the position of Captain, though she has a whole lot of training to do before she can get there.

Erm, question, in order to use the non-melee abilities of the zanpakuto, such as Getsuga Tenshou for example, do I need a "swordfighting" specialty for that as well, or does that only extend to melee swordfighting techniques?

Ok, so you wont be able to use getsuga tenshou because there is actually a kurosaki clan. In order to use sword techniques as a character based on Kido and Unarmed (Hoho) would have to train 4x as hard in order to use sword techniques

No, no, I'm not using Getsuga Tenshou. I was just giving an example.
I meant in order to use the Kido-based abilities of a Kido zanpakutou, do you need a swordfighting specialty?

See that's my zanpakutou (she doesn't have it yet, she'll gain it IC). All of its abilities are Kido-based, and its a Kido zanpakutou. So do I need only a Kido specialty to use that zanpakutou to its full potential, or do I need both swordfighting and kido? Or only swordfighting? Because it isn't technically a sword, neither is it physical, but its still a zanpakutou.

She's complete, the only difference is that I haven't decided specialties yet because of this issue. Its Kido and Swordfighting for now, though.
